CLARA believes that the arts enrich lives — and access to quality arts education has the potential to transform a child’s future. In an unprecedented partnership, CLARA and her tenants provide in-school artist residencies, workshops, internships, tickets, scholarships for SCUSD students.
CLARA’s home at the historic Fremont School is possible thanks to an innovative partnership with Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD). The District has donated use of the building on a long-term lease, allowing our tenants to pay drastically reduced rental and facilities costs. In return, the tenants pay forward their “rent” in the form of arts education programs for SCUSD students.
Over the course of our first two years, CLARA and her tenants provided 3,400 SCUSD students with over 12,000 hours of arts education across all grade levels. We expect to serve 4,500 students in our third year of programming, alone — with a goal of serving more than 10,000 students during the 20-21 school year.
Our arts education programming in now offered to the greater Sacramento region with in-school artists residencies, after-school classes, field-trips, professional development, and summer camp available to school districts and community program partners county wide.
