SITE SUPERVISOR

CLARA’s Event Site Supervisor is the onsite, day-of contact for all non-tenant performances, classes, meetings, and other events taking place at CLARA (E. Claire Raley Studios for the Performing Arts).

This is a part-time/occasional position of no more than 10-15 hours per week, primarily scheduled for evenings and weekends. 

Duties include:

• Meeting clients and providing access to the space at their allotted time.

• Bringing CLARA equipment, including chairs, tables, and cocktail tables, out from storage and assisting with setup and breakdown.

• Setting up and troubleshooting basic A/V equipment, including sound boards, lights, projectors, microphones, and an overhead lighting rig. Training will be provided. More involved A/V operations may occasionally be required, in which case additional staff may be scheduled.

• Working as part of a team to make adjustments to the portable stage and pre-set pipe and drape as needed.

• Monitoring facility supplies throughout the rental, including restocking bathrooms and ensuring garbage cans are not overflowing.

• Assisting with post-event cleanup, including taking garbage to dumpsters and cleaning floors.

• Monitoring sound levels and communicating with clients when adjustments are needed to comply with CLARA’s noise-level guidelines.

• Identifying and addressing routine issues using good judgment, knowing when to contact CLARA staff for assistance.

• Securing the facility at the end of the rental and completing required closing procedures.

The best candidates will

• Provide excellent customer service and communicate professionally with a wide range of people.

• Have experience in live events, theater, venue operations, or a similar environment.

• Have sound and/or lighting technician experience. Live sound experience is a significant plus.

• Be comfortable working independently with minimal supervision and taking initiative when issues arise.

• Have good judgment, practical problem-solving skills, and the ability to determine the appropriate next step without constant direction.

• Be reliable, responsible, and attentive to the condition of the facility.

• Be willing and able to learn CLARA’s equipment, procedures, and rental policies.

• Be comfortable interacting with renters, performers, and members of the public.

• Be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and safely move tables, chairs, and other event equipment.

• Be available to work evenings and weekends.

Compensation: $21/hour. This part-time/occasional position does not include health benefits or vacation time.

About CLARA: CLARA provides education and resources to unleash the creative potential of local arts and culture in Sacramento. We manage the former Fremont School in Midtown, which Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) donated to the community as a home for diverse arts organizations at below-market rates, in exchange for arts education donated back to Title I schools in the District. CLARA works with our cultural tenants to design creative, inspirational, and impactful arts programming that serves as their in-kind “rent” back to SCUSD; we independently create our own arts education programs as well; and create a space for community gathering through the activation of our historic home.
