Join us in the CLARA Auditorium for the next event on Friday October 18th! Featuring Jeff Rousset

About the event:

Each ticket includes one signed copy of Mine For a Moment by Catharina Maura. There will be a conversation with Catharina and Meagan Brandy, Q & A and signing afterwards. Attendance requires a ticket/book purchased from Wild Sisters Book Company.

Meagan’s backlist Say You Swear and her new release, Promise Me Not will be available for purchase.

About the book:

When the man she’s always been in love with starts dating one of her friends, artist Serenity Adesina creates a to-do list that will help her get over him once and for all.

The first item on that list?

Losing her virginity to Archer Harrison, her older brother’s billionaire best friend…and her boss.

He’s the perfect choice—alluring, caring, and entirely emotionally unavailable.

Their deal was supposed to be simple: Serenity will paint Archer anything he wants in return for a secret, no-strings-attached relationship.

Except each kiss leaves them both wanting more, tempting them to risk it all for what’s growing between them. That is, until a cruel twist of fate shows them that giving in to their feelings comes at a far higher cost than they could’ve imagined.

Get into the Halloween spirit and join us for a blood-curdlingly good cause as Sacramento Ballet teams up with Vitalant for our “Dracula Blood Rush” Blood Drive! On October 17, from 4-7 pm, we’ll be transforming the parking lot of the Sacramento Ballet studios into a fang-tastic spot to donate blood—and maybe even catch a glimpse of Dracula himself.

In true vampire fashion, we’re after your blood—but for a much better reason! Every pint you donate could help save a life, and as a token of our appreciation, all donors will receive a 15% discount on adult tickets to see Dracula live on stage, running November 1-3 at the SAFE Credit Union Performing Arts Center.

Before you bare your neck—err, arm—make sure to bring your ID (even vampires need to show identification). And to keep your blood flowing smoothly, be sure to eat a good meal and drink plenty of water before you arrive. We want you feeling as alive as possible—no turning into a bat mid-donation, please!

This is your chance to do something frightfully good for the community while snagging a deal on tickets to one of the most chilling performances of the season. Whether you’re a seasoned donor or just trying to avoid Dracula’s fangs, we’d love to see you there.

Click here to reserve your spot today, or call Vitalant at 877-258-4825. It’s a scream-worthy opportunity to give back and enjoy some spook-tacular ballet. We’re dying to see you there!

The Alliance Française de Sacramento is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Allied liberation of France with a festive evening called Vive la Liberté! on Saturday, October 19, 2024, 4:00-7:00 PM in the CLARA auditorium in Midtown.

Vive la Liberté ! aims to recreate the atmosphere of jubilation that swept through France as Allied forces liberated the country from Nazi occupation. The celebration will kick off with simple swing dance lessons, followed by live music, French hors d’oeuvres and, of course, champagne, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. Of course there will be chocolates and plenty of other desserts.

To add to the festive commemoration of this pivotal moment in history, the event will feature some dancers in period costume and songs in French and English.

Should you have 1940s /swing-themed attire, it’s a great occasion for it. (Completely optional)

$20 Wine Raffle tickets will be available for purchase at the event

Co-created by Adrian Todd Zuniga, Literary Death Match marries the literary and performative aspects of Def Poetry Jam, rapier-witted quips of American Idol’s judging (without any meanness), and the ridiculousness and hilarity of Double Dare.

Each episode of this competitive, humor-centric reading series features a thrilling mix of four famous and emerging authors (all representing a literary publication, press or concern — online, in print or live) who perform their most electric writing in seven minutes or less before a lively audience and a panel of three all-star judges. After each pair of readings, the judges — focused on literary merit, performance and intangibles — take turns spouting hilarious, off-the-wall commentary about each story, then select their favorite to advance to the finals.

The two finalists then compete in the Literary Death Match finale, which trades in the show’s literary sensibility for an absurd and comical climax to determine who takes home the Literary Death Match crown.

It may sound like a circus — and that’s half the point. Literary Death Match is passionate about inspecting new and innovative ways to present text off the page, and the most fascinating part about the LDM is how seriously attentive the audience is during each reading. We’ve called this the great literary ruse: an audacious and inviting title, a harebrained finale, but in-between the judging creates a relationship with the viewer as a judge themselves.
