CLARA believes that the arts enrich lives — and access to quality arts education has the potential to transform a child’s future. Here are the programs CLARA uses to provide students with this essential access.

DIRECT SERVICE TO STUDENTS

CLARA Classroom Live — Each week, members of CLARA’s teaching artist company visit more than 100 classrooms as part of this 10-week residency that provides standards-aligned arts education for students grades TK-6.

CLARA Classroom Virtual — This online learning platform brings a virtual teaching artist into the classroom to provide music, dance, and theatre arts education. This pandemic pivot now serves about 65,000 students per year, and allows us to provide essential arts access to rural communities throughout California.

CLARA Classroom for Teachers – coming soon, a resource to support teachers who wish to provide standards-aligned instruction to their students directly.

Performing Arts Camps — CLARA’s popular summer camps introduce students to 10-15 different kinds of performing arts over a one- or two-week session (depending on age). These camps serve about 120 students per year.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR ADULTS

Training for Artists
The Teaching Artist Training Series is an annual eight-month program designed to support artists who wish to develop their teaching skills to bring their art form into a classroom (not studio) setting. Artists learn the fundamental tools needed to teach their craft in K-12 school classrooms and specific topics important to success in an academic environment.

Training for Teachers
CLARA offers six Professional Development workshops to local school districts, intended to support teachers in providing arts-based learning in the classroom.

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL ARTS ORGANIZATIONS

Arts Up Front
Arts Up Front is a live, interactive series of workshops and panel discussions intended to help students build more comfort with attending a live dance or theatre production. In partnership with local arts organizations Sacramento Ballet, Capital Stage, and Broadway Sacramento, students have the opportunity to speak with production staff about the behind-the-scenes aspects of producing professional live performances. Students will speak with and learn about technical, artistic, and production career paths in the arts firsthand from industry professionals, prior to attending a live performance themselves.
