The CLARA Teaching Artist Training Series is an eight-month program designed to support artists who wish to develop their teaching skills to bring their art form into a classroom setting.
Artists will learn the fundamental tools necessary to teach their craft in K-12 school classrooms. Workshops will address specific topics such as strengthening relationships in the classroom, establishing procedures and capturing attention, effective communication strategies in individual and group settings, lesson plan design and structure, and California visual and performing arts (VAPA) learning standards.

Workshops are held monthly from 1-4pm at the CLARA Auditorium.
Series tuition: $250. Scholarships are available for those who qualify.

FAQs
Do I need previous teaching experience?
Nope! The workshop series is designed to support all levels of teachers, including those with little to no prior experience. Content will be customized to meet the level and needs of each participant.
Do I have to attend all workshops?
The content of each workshop builds gradually each month so it is highly recommended to attend all sessions in the series. We are not able to offer pricing or registration for the series on an a la carte basis.
Does participation guarantee future paid teaching opportunities through CLARA?
While we cannot guarantee teaching opportunities, CLARA’s artist residency program continues to grow rapidly each year, and the demand for teaching artists is increasing. Participants in this program will be among the first to be considered when new, paid, teaching positions become available.
Will there be a chance to practice teaching in a real classroom?
Yes! CLARA has partnered with Sacramento City Unified School District to provide a partner elementary school site where workshop participants can schedule practice teaching hours in a classroom. Workshop facilitators will be available to observe, provide constructive feedback and support, and help fine-tune lessons.
Is there financial aid available?
