As part of its partnership with Sacramento City Unified School District, CLARA provides several SCUSD high school students with Work-Based Learning internships each year. These internships include projects in arts administration, but, more importantly, focus on training students in essential skills for the 21st century – creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving.
As it happens, these are also skills which are particularly strengthened by arts participation.
By providing internships in arts administration to SCUSD high school students, CLARA helps shape the next generation of arts advocates and audiences, but we also provide our interns with job skills that will be invaluable to them, no matter where their career path ultimately leads.
This year, we are particularly proud to partner with Thousand Strong, a new program from Mayor Darrell Steinberg, which will provide one thousand Sacramento City youth with access to essential job-readiness training, and then pairs those students with internships which match their professional interests and goals.
We are deeply grateful to their leadership and the partnership of the Sacramento Metro Chamber of Commerce, which allows CLARA to compensate the Thousand Strong interns participating at CLARA.
